Texas General Land Office updates on post-Ike reconstruction requirements
For nearly 50 years, the Texas General Land Office (GLO) has served as the steward of the Texas coast. This authority was granted in 1959, with the passage of the Texas Open Beaches Act. This act, combined with the Dune Protection Act and laws governing state-owned submerged lands, provides the outline for how the Texas Land Commissioner is to oversee his responsibilities on the coast.
The GLO is responsible for providing guidelines for the reconstruction of coastal properties damaged by Hurricane Ike. It recently announced a mobile GLO office that will be available in selected coastal communities to aid in providing information to property owners who wish to rebuild in areas affected by Ike.
Other information, including elevation line requirements, are available at http://www.glo.state.tx.us/ike/hurricane.html.
